My mission is to inspire and empower students to use the strength of their mind and heart to face the obstacles in their life, and in the forms they appear on the mat, so they can grow to realize their greatest potential. I believe healthy challenge and self-reflection is the gateway to inner transformation and that all set backs are callings asking you to develop an even deeper commitment to your self-purpose. Utilizing informed awareness on the mat to find alignment in the body, mind, and heart, I encourage the development of honesty, self-trust, integrity, and compassion in body and mind and, ultimately, a belief in oneself to accomplish one’s dreams.
Kristen (E-RYT 500) is co-founder of Yoga Lab Studio. She has trained extensively with Lara Heimann, Shiva Rea, Seane Corn, Baron Baptiste. Kristen’s classes focus on body awareness of anatomical alignment and functional movement based on knowledge from physical therapy. Her flows are creative and intelligently sequenced to support the natural stages of progression in flexibility and strength to build up to the most challenging postures. Kristen believes the power of practice is in transforming oneself to live authentically and on purpose both on and off the mat. Taking this inner approach combined with powerful asana, Kristen encourages her students to flow with a sense of humor and fun. This leads her to bring the unexpected into class sometimes, so come with an open mind to explore and play.
Kristen is founder of Yoga for Unity and Yoga On The Mountain, an organization dedicated to uniting yogis beyond the walls of the studios to create positive conscious global change. Yoga for Unity was the title of her fundraising campaign for Off the Mat Into the World’s Global Seva Challenge, through which she raised $22,000 and later traveled to Uganda with Seane Corn, a trip that was featured in the documentary YogaWoman. Yoga for Unity is still the spearhead for the arrow of Kristen’s heartfelt purpose to empower individuals to share their strengths and unite them together as a community that cares about and takes action to create positive world change. In addition to creating charitable yoga events and teaching at her studio, Kristen is faculty at Pennsylvania State University and instructs courses in Yoga and Stress Management. On top of all that, Kristen is mother of two, and soon to be three children.
